Hurricane Joaquin strengthened into a Category 4 storm on Thursday as it continues to threaten the East Coast. However, the National Weather Service reported that there’s a chance the storm may also affect the Chicago area.
The mix of a strengthening upper trough and the hurricane’s path will bring colder conditions to the Ohio Valley, according to the NWS.
The region may see scattered Friday through Sunday, the NWS wrote. It may also be windy and cooler during the period.
The storm is now passing through the eastern Bahamas, though there were no immediate reports of casualties. Flooding has been reported in parts of Long Island, but no one had been injured, according to The Associated Press.
