Tropical Storm Nora to Eventually Become a Hurricane in the Central Pacific Ocean

  • Tropical Depression Eighteen-E was upgraded to Tropical Storm Nora Friday night, about 1,500 miles east-southeast of Hawaii.
  • This new tropical storm will move west-northwest over the next several days.
  • Steady strengthening is expected to a hurricane later this weekend or early next week.
  • Most forecast guidance curls this system toward the north in the Monday/Tuesday timeframe well east of the Hawaiian Islands, however, this isn't guaranteed at this point.
  • Interests in the Hawaiian Islands should monitor the progress of this new system.
