At 27 foot is this the world's biggest icicle?
A 27-foot icicle photographed hanging from a bridge in Scotland could well be the world’s biggest frozen spike.
27-foot icicle in Scotland: Is it the world's biggest?
The icicle, which dangles from the Dulnain Bridge in Grantown, Inverness-shire, was caught on camera by amateur snapper David Lambie.
He reckons the spike, the longest of several hanging under the bridge over the River Spey, is the icy product of Britain’s coldest winter in 30 years.
According to the 72-year-old, the icicle grew from a modest 12 feet to 27 feet in a matter of weeks, as proved by locals who measured it by dangling a tape over the side of Dulnain Bridge.
It’s thought water coming from a leaking pipe inside the bridge led to the formation of the awe-inducing icicle collection.
