Microbursts hit Chicago suburbs
A strong gust of wind the National Weather Service calls a microburst, not a tornado, swept through two Chicago suburbs overnight: Homer Glen and Burr Ridge. Many homeowners were left with a mess to start their day.
Meteorologist say damage from a microburst is more isolated, not spread out the damage likely to come from tornadoes.
Some suburban trees were uprooted altogether, while other trees had their thick trunks splintered at the base. Serious winds slammed a Homer Glen subdivision, leaving behind piles of debris.
