That same morning, Great Falls, Mont. dipped to -33 degrees, setting a record for the coldest temperature ever recorded so early in the season. The extreme cold led to power outages in southwestern portions of the city.
Earlier in the week on Dec. 4, a low temperature of -37 degrees was reported at a weather station in Wyoming, according to the National Weather Service in Riverton.http://www.weather.com/news/weather-winter/extremes-cold-snow-records-december-2013-20131207
