When
we think about thunder we imagine running to our cars fast as possible to dodge
any risk of being struck and our dogs hiding under the table shaking in fear,
but it can be a surprise to hear Florida tops the charts for having the most
thunderstorms and the most lightning strikes when compared to other state
in the U.S.
There
are three types of thunderstorms
- Orographic thunderstorm
- Air mass thunderstorm
- Frontal thunderstorm
Florida is surrounded by water so
when the wind blows, the ocean water gets distributed on land. The ocean also
gives off moisture making the land very moist compared to other states that are
surrounded by land. Airflows come together over the peninsula and moist air
rises over Florida’s warm land surface. Florida experiences a high in
thunderstorms between June-September.
