The Picture Perfect Storm

A thunderstorm hit Brisbane, Australia on Tuesday. It caused heavy rainfall and hail. Flights were delayed going into and out of the city. There were 10,000 lightning strokes. From what I observed at the museum about lightning, I am wondering the role of sprites in creating such a powerful storm. Approximately 5,000 homes lost power. There were more storm warning issued, but have since been cancelled. However, damaging wind and hail is still in the forecast.
