Nepal Earthquake kills more than 2,500

Nepal has suffered the worst Earthquake in 80 years (7.8 Magnitude), and more that 2,500 people have been confirmed dead in the region, mostly in Nepal. The Earthquake reached the slopes of Mount Everest which triggered an avalanche that buried part of the base camp packed with foreign climbers preparing to make their summit attempts. At least 18 people died there and 61 injured. The Earthquake centered outside Kathmandu, and was strong enough to be felt by parts of India, Bangladesh, China's region of Tibet and Pakistan. At least 1,152 people died in Kathmandu and with search and rescue efforts far from over, it is unclear how much the death toll will rise.

Midweek Severe Thunderstorm Threat

This week ahead of us, rain and thunderstorms are reported to become more common in parts of the South as moisture returns northward. On Wednesday, portions of the Midwest could be targeted by severe thunderstorms as a cold front pushes through the region. However, the magnitude of the severe threat remains uncertain which is why it would be wise to stay tuned into the news for day to day updates. A few light storms (some involving hail) have already occurred in the southern Plains from southeast Oklahoma to central and southern Arkansas, as well as northeast Texas and northwest Mississippi. The image attached shows the forecast for a severe threat that the Midwest may encounter sometime midweek. As you can see, Chicago may be due for some T-storms or rainfall.

Poenix, Arizona Flash Flood

This article reports on the flash flood that hit Phoenix on August 20, 2014 and is ranked the 3rd most hazardous storm on 2014, by USA Today. The video in the link includes the dramatic rescue of an elderly woman from a van trapped in the flood. All of the rain, flooding and debris forced authorities to close nearly two dozen roadways is Maricopa County response to the threat of additional rainfall that could cause problems on the roads in the next few days. Authorities responded to multiple water rescue scenes involving stuck drivers. There was reported two people dead after the massive rainfall over Phoenix, AZ.

Super Bowl Sunday Snowstorm

Chicago's recent snowstorm has been ranked the fifth largest snow event in city history. 16.2 inches of snow were recorded on Sunday and 19.3 at O'Hare airport. Steady snowfall and gusty winds dropped visibility to less than one quarter of a mile. It forced many businesses and city attractions so close early on Super Bowl Sunday and all CPS school cancelled classes for Monday. Metra train lines were delayed do to snow removal on the tracks along with highway backup waiting for plowing. More than 350 snow fighting equipment were out trying to maintain clearance all day and night on Sunday. The storm knocked out power to more than 15,000 ComEd customers by 10 a.m. and 14,000 by 4 p.m. causing them to miss the Super Bowl. Lake Shore Drive was considered one of the most dangerous roads in the city during the storm as it got strong winds off the lake and possible flood warning being issued.

The Boston area got hit by a blizzard with wind gusts over 70 mph along with other areas of lower New England and Long Island on Tuesday. However, this storm was reportedly expected to hit Philadelphia and New York City which it didn't. The buses and subways were shut off momentarily in preparation for the storm which angered some residents preventing them from making their daily commutes to work and school. Other's were more sympathetic to the weathermen who reported a drastically severe storm headed their way it relation to the severe storm they have experienced in the past. But anyways, Boston has experienced snow plows working non-stop this morning and police officers driving nurses and doctors to hospitals to take precautionary measures. More than 7,700 flights were cancelled, along with
