A cold front has the potential to bring severe weather to central South America from Saturday night into Sunday night.
The
front will move through Montevideo and Buenos Aires late Saturday night
into Sunday, before moving through interior Uruguay and more of
northern Argentina on Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.
The main
threats from these storms will be damaging winds and torrential
downpours, however hail and even isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out
for the region, especially on Sunday.
With such a slow-moving
system and so much precipitation expected to fall, there is the risk of
flooding for parts of the region. The front will be moving slow enough
to bring some locations nearly 2 inches of rainfall, if not more.
Even
mariners will take notice; the front is expected to bring strong winds
to the Rio de la Plata, bringing rough seas and creating a problem for
small crafts there.
During early next week, the front will
eventually lose strength as it pushes north into southeastern Brazil and
Paraguay. Less severe weather is expected there.
Following the
front, cool conditions and some sunshine is expected to return. However,
late week another storm system is expected to develop and will likely
bring another round of showers and thunderstorms to the region, with the
potential for more severe weather.
