NWS said a strong thunderstorm was detected at 12:54 p.m. along a line from 26 miles east of Laplace to 13 miles south of Belle Chasse. It is moving north at 35 mph, NWS says.
As of 1:35 p.m., the Causeway was closed due to severe weather. It reopened at about 2:10 p.m. with full weather restrictions in effect including no motorcycles, glass trucks, or RVs.
A slow moving upper-level low will keep rain in the forecast through Thursday and with the chance for heavy rain, some street flooding will be possible, WDSU Exact Weather meteorologist Jay Gallé said.
