Tropical Storm Octave has formed off the Pacific coast of southwest Mexico, about 305 miles south of the southern tip of Baja California.
The system is expected to marginally gather strength over the next couple of days, but should remain below hurricane force. That said, the center will remain offshore through at least midweek, tracking toward the northwest over the next day or so, before making a more northerly turn. Nevertheless, anyone with interests in the southern portion of the Baja California peninsula should monitor the progress of this system.
The threat of high surf and rip currents may ramp up a bit along the coast as the circulation gathers strength.
Octave is currently tracking northwest, but should make a turn toward Baja in the next couple of days. Cabo San Lucas could feel some of Octave's effects by late week.
