Deep South feels the Autumn chill

- Most of the region will be dry and colder today, but some lake-effect rain and snow showers are possible east of Lakes Erie and Ontario.
- Snow mainly confined to higher elevations from western New York to West Virginia.
- Up to a foot of snow possible in the highest elevations of the Tug Hill Plateau in New York.
- Some rain/snow showers for western Pennsylvania down to West Virginia.
- Some lightning and thunder could accompany the lake-effect event in Upstate New York.
- Chilly, breezy and dry for all the major East Coast cities.
- High temperatures will be in the 40s over the interior and the 50s on the coastal plain through the end of the week.
- Several reinforcing shots of cold air will keep the region below average through early next week.
- Outside of spotty rain and snow showers for the interior Northeast, no major bouts of rain or snow anticipated through the weekend.
- A first shot of chilly Canadian air has arrived for the Southeast and southern Appalachians.
- Most areas will start out in the 30s and 40s today with some areas of frost in the TN Valley, north Georgia and the Upstate of South Carolina.
- Outside of a spotty shower across southern Florida, the entire region will be dry today.
- Highs today will be in the 50s in Tennessee, far northern Georgia and the far western Carolinas and Virginia.
- Highs in the 60s across much of the Southeast with 70s along the Gulf Coast.
- Highs in the 80s across the southern half of Texas and in southern Florida Thursday.
- The coldest air of the season arrives for the Southeast and southern Appalachians Friday and Saturday.
- Many areas in the Southeast will see a frost or freeze on Saturday morning in the 20s and 30s.
- Showers and storms increase across Texas on Saturday as an upper-low moves out of the Southwest.
- Much of the region will have dry conditions today as a sprawling high pressure system dominates.
- Some lake-effect rain and snow showers will fall south of Lake Superior, east/southeast of Lake Michigan and off Lake Erie in northeast Ohio.
- Most lake-effect precipitation will be in the form of rain.
- Temperatures remain 10 to 20 degrees below average through Friday.
- Highs will primarily be in the 40s from the Dakotas to the Ohio Valley.
- Highs in the 50s to 60s from the central to the southern Plains.
- Outside of some lake-effect rain/snow showers in the Great Lakes, most areas will be dry and chilly through the weekend.
- Big changes early to mid next week with as a vigorous storm system blossoms showers and storms through the Plains and MS Valley.
- Another dry and mild day is expected across most of the region.
- Temperatures are forecast to be 5 to 10 degrees above average from the coast to Arizona, Utah and Idaho.
- Fog will remain persistent along coastal areas of Washington and Oregon.
- Milder 60s and lower 70s occur from the Northwest to Colorado and New Mexico.
- Warmer 70s, 80s and lower 90s occur from California to Arizona.
- Moisture increases across the Southwest today leading to some isolated showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.
- A potential winter storm will develop in Montana by late Sunday and it will move into Wyoming by Monday (heavy snow/wind).
- Turning much colder in the northern Rockies late Sunday/Monday.
