Damaging winds about 60km/h with peak gusts of 90km/h are forecast to develop during Thursday morning.
“The winds as we speak are about 45km/h and the gusts are up to 60km/h,” the Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster said on Wednesday afternoon.
“Winds will be expected to increase early [Thursday], so this is where the warnings come into place for the damaging winds; we’ll see a gradual increase.”
The front, which is not expected to bring rain, will pass through on Thursday, with winds to then gradually ease off after it passes, but the front will cause the temperature to drop considerably overnight on Thursday.
“You will probably see some frosts early Friday morning behind this change,” he said.
The temperature is forecast to dip into the negative with a low of minus 1 on Friday morning, but the day should then warm up to about 21 degrees.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should move vehicles under cover or away from trees, secure loose items around houses and yards and keep clear of fallen power lines.
