Top 10 U.S. Locations With the Most Snow Days Per Year

10. Duluth, Minnesota: 60.6 Days Per Year

To be on this list, locations all have at least 60 days per year with snow flying, but Duluth barely makes the cut. The "Zenith City" is also one of the coldest cities in the U.S. with daily highs below freezing for more than three months.

9. Buffalo, New York: 61.0 Days

Buffalo may be known for its lake-effect snow and for being a snowy city overall, but it only receives about 95 inches of snow each year, landing it outside the top 10 snowiest cities overall.

8. Caribou, Maine: 61.1 Days

Caribou comes in at No. 5 for the most snowfall each season. Most of the snow that "The Most Northeastern City in the United States" receives is from coastal winter storms and storms coming across the Canadian border.

7. Binghamton, New York: 64.5 Days

Binghamton and much of central New York benefits from lake-effect snowfall from the Great Lakes and occasionally the Finger Lakes. Add this to the snowfall from winter storms that pass through the Northeast and Binghamton averages nearly 7 feet of snow each year.

6. Rochester, New York: 65.9 Days

Rochester picks up nearly 100 inches of snow each winter from Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. This is more snow than Buffalo, which typically hogs the "snowiest city" moniker.

4 (tie). Pellston, Michigan: 66.4 Days

Located in northern Lower Michigan, Pellston receives more than 95 inches of snow each year and has an all-time record low below minus-50 degrees Fahrenheit.

4 (tie). Syracuse, New York: 66.4 Days

In just over two months worth of snowy days, Syracuse receives just over 10 feet of snow each winter.

3. Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan: 79.2 Days

Similar to Syracuse, Sault Ste. Marie collects around 10 feet of snow each year, particularly due to its proximity to Lake Superior and its lake-effect snowstorms.

2. Hancock/Houghton, Michigan: 90.5 Days

You might want to hibernate like an overly drowsy bear cub if you live in this part of Michigan. More than 200 inches of snow falls during the hibernation months here.

1. Mount Washington, New Hampshire: 118.5 Days

Mount Washington also comes in at No. 1 in terms of snowfall for an average year. The observing station there receives, on average, more than 23 feet of snow each year.
