According to sources, Typhoon Mangkhut is the strongest storm on the planet this year. It first hit the Philippines early Saturday morning (GMT), pushing winds of up to 165 mph. The typhoon then crossed the South China Sea and headed northwest towards Hong Kong arriving late Sunday evening (GMT) in Guangdong, China's most populous province, killing four people before heading west into neighboring Guangxi province around midnight, where residents experienced winds of up to 107 mph and gusts of up to 138 mph, flash flooding, storm surges, and injuries from flying debris. More than 3 million people have been transported to safety in Southern China as Typhoon Mangkhut moved northbound and continued to cause damages across the northern region.
By Monday morning, hundreds of residents were left without power due to excessive flooding, which reached average person height, blocked roads and walk paths, sinkholes, and elemenatary schools that collasped during the storm.
