Temperatures hit 95 degrees around 1 p.m. today as Chicago set a record for the second straight day. But a storm system to the west and southwest could bring cooler temperatures to the area tonight.
The National Weather Service had declared a severe thunderstorm watch for the Chicago area until 11 p.m. tonight. The watch includes most of northeast and north central Illinois, including all Chicago-area counties in Illinois.
The record high temperature for May 28 had been 93 degrees, according to ChicagoWeatherCenter.com, and the thermometer hit 95 at O'Hare International Airport at 12:51 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
