The sun might be gunning for us.
A high-definition image released by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory shows a violent spot on the surface of the sun, prime for eruption. And it’s pointed right at Earth.
The sunspot complex, known as AR 1429, is responsible for several large solar storms that recently rained plasma out into the solar system. The cluster is much larger than Earth — roughly the size of Jupiter, according to SDO researchers
