Winds Fuel Wildfires in Central Florida
A wildfire started in Marion County, Florida at about 11:45 a.m. EST Saturday.
Winds are fueling the fires and causing them to spread rapidly.
"Winds as of 2 p.m. EST are sustained at 18 mph and gusting as high as 34 mph," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Andy Mussoline.
The fire spread from five to 30-40 acres burning by 2 p.m. EST.
According
to McCarty, multiple wildfires are burning in the Ocala National Forest
and some structures are involved. "The fires have jumped several
roads," Florida Forest Service Duty Officer David McCarty said.
"We
were sending a helicopter to the fire in Marion County to assist, but
recalled it after learning of the fires in the Ocala National Forest,"
said McCarty.
