New Zealand has experienced its hottest winter since it was first recorded a century ago.
"The average nationwide temperature was 9.5 Celsius (49.1 Fahrenheit)
for June, July and August. That's about 1.2 Celsius above average and
0.3 Celsius above the previous record set in 1984, the National
Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research said. Record-keeping began
in 1909.
The winter had a pattern of warmer winds from the north but fewer
southerly winds, which typically bring cold air from Antarctica, NIWA
climate scientist Brett Mullan said. He said he believes that global
weather remains variable but is in a warming pattern."
This is obviously a good thing for farmers who said the milder weather allowed crops to grow, and recover from the drought the previous summer had brung. What did this mean for everyone else? Business such as a ski resort had a boom in business with the warmer weather, which provided for perfect ski weather. New Zealand who is known for its arctic like temperatures in July were extremely pleasant.
Perhaps this can be attributed to Global Warming?
