- Winter Storm Atlas moves through the northern Rockies today and tonight.
- Snow is developing in the mountains of Idaho, west and south Montana and west Wyoming today.
- Later today and tonight the snow should become heavier and move out of the mountains and begin falling at lower elevations in Wyoming, south Montana, northeast Utah and in west and central Colorado.
- Friday the storm shifts into the Plains, but the snow continues in central and east Wyoming, southeast Montana and northwest and north-central Colorado.
- Snow should gradually wind down Friday night across eastern Wyoming.
- Rain should change to snow flurries before ending in northeast Colorado Friday night.
- The heaviest snow should fall in northwest, central and east Wyoming with 1 to 2+ feet possible.
- Elsewhere snowfall of 4 to 12 inches is possible in the mountains of Idaho, west and south Montana and northern Colorado.
- Accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are forecast in northeast Utah and central Colorado.
- It should be quiet and calm across the Southwest.
- A Santa Ana wind event is forecast to develop Thursday night and linger into Saturday across Southern California.
- Fire danger will be extremely high in Southern California.

- Warm and dry conditions continue for the majority of the region today.
- A few thunderstorms are possible in the lower Mississippi Valley and Tennessee Valley.
- Better chances of thunderstorms are along the central and east Gulf Coast and Florida.
- High temperatures will be mostly in the 80s with lower to middle 90s forecast in Oklahoma and Texas.
- Tropical Storm Karen moves into the southeast Gulf of Mexico today and slowly moves northward toward the central or east Gulf Coast Friday and Saturday.
- Karen could become a minimal hurricane by Friday.
- Landfall could occur Saturday or Sunday.
- This system is likely to strengthen into Tropical Storm Karen as it moves north through the Gulf.

- Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely across most of the region today.
- A disturbance ahead of Winter Storm Atlas is the culprit for today's storminess.
- Severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong winds, hail and isolated tornadoes could occur in south Minnesota, Iowa, east and central Nebraska, northeast Kansas and north Missouri.
- Atlas moves out of the Rockies into the Plains Friday increasing the risk of severe thunderstorms from southern Wisconsin southwest to central and east Kansas.
- Damaging winds, hail and tornadoes are possible Friday with the highest tornado threat appearing to be in southern Wisconsin, southern Minnesota, Iowa, eastern Nebraska and northwest Illinois.
- Colder air blowing in behind Atlas changes the rain over to snow during the day Friday in western South Dakota and northwest Nebraska.
- The rain-snow line should continue to move eastward Friday night reaching central South Dakota and central Nebraska during the overnight hours.
- Snow winds down Saturday as Atlas moves eastward.
- Accumulations of 1 to 2 feet are possible in western South Dakota and northwest Nebraska with the potential for over 2 feet of snow in the Black Hills.
- A few inches of snow are possible as far east as central South Dakota and north-central Nebraska.
- Showers and thunderstorms along Atlas' front are likely in the Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes Saturday.
- A few severe thunderstorms are possible along the cold front.
Northeast | View Regional Video
- Warm and dry for much of the region again Thursday.
- Showers and thunderstorms may move into southwest New York, western Pennsylvania and West Virginia during the afternoon.
- High temperatures should be in the 70s in Upstate New York and New England with upper 70s and 80s expected from New York City and Pennsylvania through the Virginias.
- Rain from Tropical Storm Karen will move into the region Sunday night/Monday.
