California Wildfires: Hundreds of Residents Flee Three Infernos as Over 100 Homes Burn

A new wildfire broke out in Siskiyou County 50 miles in Northern California on Monday, damaging or destroying 100 homes near the city of Weed. KTVZ.com reports that the fire forced the evacuation of nearly 1,500 people and shut down Interstate 5. The so-called Boles Fire had grown to around 350 acres by Monday night, according to Cal Fire.

More than 800 firefighters, aided by aircraft, fought the flames.

Hundreds of people have been issued mandatory evacuation orders after the Courtney Fire was sparked Sunday afternoon near Bass Lake in Central California. In total, about 1,000 residents were pushed out of some 400 homes, according to Erica Stuart, Madera County Sheriff's spokesperson.
