Powerful nor'easter to bring heavy rain and snow
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire, western Hampden and northern Worcester counties. In these areas, there is a possibility of 6 inches or more of snow.
However, the system's track is likely to produce a warmer storm with rain for most.
"I think northern and central parts of New England, western New England are really going to bear the brunt of the snow with this system. In some of the higher elevations, we could see a little bit of snow," StormTeam 5's Cindy Fitzgibbon said. "If temperatures are just a few degrees colder, heavy, wet snow is a possibility."
However, for most of Massachusetts, a drenching storm is forecast to bring rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches. With easterly winds of 45 mph or higher, there is the potential for coastal flooding as well.
"The heaviest rain from this comes from 11 in the morning until about 6 in the evening. So that is why I say the evening commute (Tuesday) could be a little bit rough," Fitzgibbon said.
A flood watch was issued for eastern and southeastern Massachusetts, with the exception of the Cape and Islands.
A high wind watch has been issued for the south coast of Massachusetts, including the Cape and Islands, and the Cape Ann area.
