Shortly after the Atlantic basin experienced its first named storm of the season, the first tropical storm of the 2018 East Pacific hurricane season is expected to develop this week.
The Atlantic basin sprung to life on Friday, May 25, when Alberto formed off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The storm eventually made landfall on the western Florida Panhandle.
A tropical storm has yet to be named in the eastern Pacific Ocean this year.
Tropical Depression One-E formed well off the coast of Mexico around mid-May, but failed to strengthen to tropical storm status.
AccuWeather Atlantic Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski expects tropical development south of Mexico this week as an area of low pressure moves into favorable conditions for further organization.
