Dickinson County, IA (KSFY) Okoboji Iowa and the surrounding saw some of the heaviest rainfall and flash flooding Sunday night.
With the lakes and rivers already above flood level in Dickonson County, roughly five inches of rain poured into the region in a very short period of time.
People in the community said the main drag of Arnold’s Park looked like a river around seven o’clock Sunday night.
In Superior, IA, one group took their jet skis out for a spin in the several feet of water sitting in their front yards. By about nine o’clock Sunday night most all of that water was gone and cleanup efforts already begun.
Highway 86 was closed due to flash flooding and several vehicles were stalled out on the roadways Sunday evening. The Dickinson County emergency manager said he also received several reports of downed branches and flooded basements during the down pour.
“Torrential, flowing every which direction,” Okoboji resident Cody Degraaf said. “I had ankle deep water all across my backyard.”
Even though much of the water quickly receded Sunday evening, emergency officials stress that people should not drive in the area, especially in the dark
