A winter storm is expected to hit Chicago and has been extended outside of Cook County to Dupage, Grundy, Kendall, Lake, and Will counties through 9 a.m. Monday morning. The storm's arrival is later than expected, but its expected intensity remains the same.
As of now, the expected storm to hit Chicago has caused at least 400 flight cancellations from both Ohare and Midway airport, and transportation officials proclaim that travel by car is hazardous as well.
Snow is expected to fall on the north and west areas of Chicago between 5 p.m and 7 p.m and eventually move to the southeast. The storm could bring wind gusts of up to 40 mph, reduced visibility, possible white-out conditions, and may be at its worst around midnight.
It is expected that at the height of the storm, there will possibly be at least 2 inches of snowfall per hour, the far northwest suburbs could see 9 to 12 inches, possibly 6 to 10 inches at O'hare, 3 to 5 inches at Midway and 2 to 4 inches of snow for the shoreline and downtown Chicago area.
The merger of heavy snow and strong winds could result in damage to power lines, so Chicagoans are advised to be prepared for power outages.
Travelers in the Chicago area are advised to prepare for slick roads, poor visibility and increased travel times.
