After heavy thunderstorms drenched parts of McHenry and Lake counties overnight into Thursday morning, another series of storms started to hit areas west of Chicago in the afternoon before another round is anticipated again overnight into Friday. A tornado warning was declared for parts of Kane, DeKalb and Kendall counties, including areas around Aurora, Oswego and Montgomery, according to the weather service. That warning has now been canceled.Overnight Wednesday into Thursday, weather spotters reported 3.9 inches of rain in parts of Round Lake in Lake County, and more than 4.5 inches in the cities of McHenry and Hebron in McHenry County. There were active flood warnings for the Des Plaines River in Lake and Cook counties through at least Saturday, and parts of the Fox River through Monday.Many creeks, streams, and rivers remain elevated and some roads are flooded. the flood warning said.Additional thunderstorms were expected Thursday afternoon closer to Chicago, and a beach hazards statement was in effect for Cook County, meaning beachgoers should stay away from and out of Lake Michigan.
