Icelandic volcanoes can wreck havoc in Britain

Icelandic volcanoes can wreck havoc in Britain

A group of scientists and academics from the Met Office and British Geological Survey along with the geologists from the Edinburgh University had issued a warning with respect to the eruption of a massive volcano.

The geologists claim that certain forms of Icelandic volcano eruptions that are called effusive gas-rich eruptions must be considered an instant danger to the environment and human health for the majority of northern Europe. Such volcanoes can continue to erupt for months, which can lead to geological destruction across thousands of kilometers.

Eyjafjallajokull volcano, which exploded in the year 2010, is supposed to be a very 'explosive' kind of volcano as it pushes ash in to the atmosphere within a short duration of time.

Though, as a precaution, air traffic in UK was stopped for a while, the Cabinet Office alleges the event was relatively a minor one, attributing to the potentially-lethal power of the Icelandic volcanoes.

The research also highlights the disastrous Laki eruption in 1783, which led to tens of thousands of deaths in the United Kingdom. It adds further saying that if a similar eruption of this magnitude occurs, then the UK and other areas might get covered with thick and dense layers of of toxic materials and ash, along with extended extreme climatic conditions. The researchers' opinions will be aired at the European Geosciences Union in Vienna today.
