Because of a strong El Nino climate scientists are expected to make this summer hurricane season to be weak in the Atlantic. Over the past century there has been an average of 31 percent of having at least one major hurricane to make a landfall along the East Coast, but in 2014 it is expected to be 20 percent which is lower than previous years. El Ninos have varied effects based on how they move jet streams, fast-moving air currents that stretch around the globe. The increased rainfall El Nino can bring can be helpful in minimizing droughts and wildfires in California but at the same time it can also have damaging effects like floods.
