Florida Crop Freeze By Ivanna Ramirez

You might not know it given the relatively balmy conditions outside, but winter is coming.
And with that, comes the typical concern what a freeze might do to sensitive crops and plants. Of perhaps greatest concern is the damage that can be done to citrus crops. Freezes caused major damage in 1977, 1981, 1983, 1985 and 1989 according to flcitrusmutual.com which also cites freezes in the Sunshine State back periodically dating back to 1835.
"I think as we head further into the season, we will see some cooler temperatures," said Tim Sedlock, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
There's really only two ways to keep plants safe from suffering potential damage caused by freezing temperatures and that's either through placing covers over them or to simply take them inside.
