CHICAGO — The rest of this week's weather forecast runs the gamut from rain to snow before the clouds may finally give way to sunny, higher temperatures this weekend.
Flurries could occur during the overnight hours from Wednesday into Thursday, but snow is not expected to accumulate, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Charles Mott.
A low of about 38 degrees is expected overnight, according to the weather service.
On Thursday, temperatures could rise to 52 degrees amid partly cloudy skies.
For Friday, a high of about 62 degrees is expected. By Monday, temperatures could rise to nearly 70 degrees.
April has ushered in record-setting rain accumulation, unleashing floods that led Gov. Pat Quinn last week to declare a state of emergency in Illinois.
The weather service measured 8.52 inches of rain accumulation for the month as of midnight, which breaks the record of 8.33 inches set about this time in 1937.
Temperatures also have been unseasonably low, Mott said. The monthly average as of midnight has been about 45.7 degrees, down from the normal monthly average of 48.9 degrees.
