Ice Jams Cause Flooding in Montana

Ice jams and melting snow have caused major problems for Montana and Wyoming. "In Montana, four major rivers were under flood warnings. The National Weather Service in Billings says warnings are along the Gallatin River near Bozeman, Musselshell River from Harlowton to Roundup, Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone River near Billings, and the Tongue River near Miles City."

This flooding has resulted in many people having to evacuate their homes. All of this flooding is from he ice jams in the Yellowstone River. Warmer temperatures and freezing rain have made the situation worse. This area has received a lot of snowfall this year so these areas are starting to flood. The flooding has gotten so bad that the National Guard has been called to assist. Another reason for the flooding is that the ice jams are causing the water levels to rise. Until these jams melt, the flooding will continue.
