Snow, Ice Across Interior Northeast this Weekend

http://www.weather.com/news/weather-winter/snow-ice-interior-northeast-20140329

An area of low pressure will track from the Appalachians to off the Northeast coast this weekend. Just enough cold air will be in place on the northwest side of this low to result in some accumulating snow and ice from Ohio and West Virginia through the interior Northeast.

Farther east, the Northeast I-95 corridor will see mainly rain from this storm system. In fact, somelocalized flooding is possible.
Below is a look at what to expect from this latest winter storm.

Snow, Ice Through Sunday

  • Timing: Through Sunday
  • Locations: Ohio and West Virginia to western Pennsylvania, western/northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
  • Precipitation types: Snow along with some freezing rain and sleet. Some locations, including Ohio, West Virginia and western Pennsylvania, may transition from rain to snow.
  • Snow, ice amounts: More than 5 inches of snow possible in parts of western/northern New York and northern New England, particularly in the higher elevations. For specifics, see our forecast map at the top right. Freezing rain accumulations possible just to the south of the snow swath. Greatest chance for up to one quarter inch of ice accumulation extends from near the Adirondacks to parts of Vermont, New Hampshire and southern/eastern Maine.
  • Possible impacts: Slick travel conditions. Localized power outages cannot be ruled out due to the heavy, wet nature of the snow. Areas where ice accumulations reach a quarter of an inch could also see power outages.
  • Winds: Strong, gusty winds expected Sunday from the Northeast into the southern Appalachians. Gusts up to 60 mph possible in the higher elevations from eastern West Virginia and western Virginia to western North Carolina.
