Asian Air Pollution Strengthens Pacific Storms

Researchers have recently discovered that air pollutants are contributing to the strengthening of Pacific storms. Yuan Wang, from the California Institute of Technology found that pollution results in taller and thicker clouds with heavier precipitation.

Regions in Asia have the highest levels of air pollution in the world, Beijing and New Dehli frequently exhibiting dangerous levels of airborne pollutants. This is not only dangerous for those living in this area, but as studies have found it is also affecting the intensity of the weather in those regions.

These studies have found that the tiny particles of air pollution are blown out above the Pacific Ocean and come into contact with the moisture droplets in the air.

According to Dr. Yuan, the Pacific storm track has a significant impact on other storm tracks and weather patterns affecting other parts of the world, such as North America.
