California Heat Wave

"Northern California’s heat wave should last through the end of the week — but even as it causes people to break a sweat, it probably won’t break any records.

Instead, look for variations of Monday’s amped-up cloud-free conditions to continue, with temperatures along the coast topping off in the low 80s, while inland valleys could approach 105 degrees.

In San Francisco, the weather Tuesday along the bay could pass 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. That’s about 10 degrees above normal, but well below the 101-degree record for the day that was set in 1904.

“No records have been set this weekend, and there probably won’t be this week,” said Drew Peterson, a forecaster for the weather service based in Monterey. “We’re thinking Wednesday is going to be our hottest day, but there are some pretty robust records sitting in the way.”"
