A soggy spring and dry summer will lead to a low crop yield in central Indiana in the fall. But local farmers learned recently about a new way of farming to beat extreme weather patterns in coming years.
Sustaining soil through rough stretches of weather year in and year out was the subject of Wednesday's soil day in Frankton.
Shuter Sunset Farms hosted the soil health field day, organized by Soil Health Partnership and the Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative, two entities that strive to help farmers improve the quality of their fields.

In addition to going out in the field and seeing new techniques used at Shuter Farms to promote better growth, local farmers, producers and farming consultants heard presentations from agricultural experts. Topics ranged from new ways to till, to the best time to inject the ground with nitrogen.
