Tropical storm watch issued for Brevard; Sandy becomes hurricane

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. —
A tropical storm watch has been extended north to include Brevard County.
A tropical storm watch means tropical storm conditions are possible within 48 hours, according to the National Weather Service.
Hurricane Sandy is 65 miles away from Kingston, Jamaica, and moving north-northeast at 13 miles per hour.
The storm could affect Florida. Most models keep Sandy's track off the Sunshine State's coast, but its powerful winds will likely have an affect on the coast.
"It looks like the center of the storm will stay east of us," WESH 2 meteorologist Amy Sweezey said. "We'll get the high surf, some beach erosion and a higher rain chance for Friday."
Parts of South Florida are also under a tropical storm watch.
Meteorologists are also watching another storm that has formed in the Atlantic. Tropical Storm Tony poses no threat to land, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
