Strong Quake Strikes Mayanmar
A strong earthquake hit Myanmar on Sunday. It collapsed a bridge and a gold mine and also damaged several old buddhist pagodas. No casualties were reported near the most populated areas. Smaller towns near the epicenter were hit harder. Myanmar had a poor disaster response system, despite losing 140,000 people in a cyclone in 2008. This place is a center for mining minerals and gemstones, and some of the mines collapsed. The quake was also felt in Bangkok over in Thailand.
