Strong To Severe Thunderstorms Possible Overnight
Good Saturday to you!
Samantha Smith here — and can I just tell you that I am so glad we’ve gotten in such a good day weather-wise for Panoply? While there has certainly been rain and thunderstorm activity in the forecast region, it hasn’t been a complete wash for all of us!
For tonight, expect another round of rain and storms, some of which could be strong to severe. The main threats are damaging winds, localized flooding, and hail. A brief spin-up can’t be ruled out but is not the immediate concern. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of our immediate forecast region under a “Slight Risk” (yellow shaded area in the map below) for severe thunderstorms tonight:
The in-house forecast model we’re always showing on the air and discussing on the blog indicates that a line of strong to severe thunderstorms will enter NW AL after 10 PM this evening and will move east through the early morning hours of Sunday. Here’s what I mean:
That being said, we have already seen (as of this 5 PM hour update) one severe thunderstorm enter NW AL, so from here on out tonight, stay weather aware. I would advise you to go about your normal plans but have a way to get your warnings, should we continue to see them issued.
