A storm system responsible for some snow over the higher peaks of California, the Four Corners and Rockies is now pushing north-northeast through the northern Plains.
Parts of western South Dakota picked up from 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain Friday, either further soaking saturated snowless ground, or helping to accelerate additional snowmelt. Some slushy wet snow fell over the higher elevations of the Black Hills Friday, but fortunately nothing remotely resembling the wallop from Atlas.
As low pressure continues to pull away, rain will end in South Dakota, as it already has over Wyoming. Wrap-around showers will persist, however, in much of North Dakota through Saturday, with local rainfall amounts approaching one inch possible.
Then there was the wind!
A wind gust up to 72 mph was clocked in the Badlands south of Wall, S.D. In Rapid City, a 67 mph wind gust was measured, only a tad lighter than that measured during Winter Storm Atlas, though not nearly as long-lasting.
