Tropical Storm Sonia was a low-end tropical storm that made landfall on the west coast of Mexico late on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Sonia first formed Friday, Nov. 1 as Tropical Depression Eighteen-E a few hundred miles southwest ofManzanillo, Mexico. It struggled at first, but finally became a tropical storm on Sunday morning. Maximum sustained winds reached 45 mph as it curved northeast into the coast of Mexico, making landfall near El Dorado in the state of Sinaloa late on Nov. 3. It became a remnant low on the morning of Monday, Nov. 4.
The Mexican National Weather Service (SMN) said over 5 inches of rain fell near Culiacan, Sinaloa, in association with Sonia's landfall
