LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The winter weather and snow are causing donations to the Salvation Army to come to a halt. For the safety of its volunteers, the organization didn’t deploy their red kettles over the weekend, so now their donations are behind.
“The Red Kettle campaign is the foundation of our finances,” said Salvation Army of Lubbock Captain Nathaniel Doria.
With canceling Saturdays bell ringing the Salvation Army is falling behind of reaching their $250,000 goal. "By suspending that campaign for the whole day, we are now about nine percent below last year.”
And now the Salvation Army needs your help, “We are calling for our friends in Lubbock to help us reach our goal. Lubbock has 250,000 people. If $1 is given by everybody, we’ll be done in one day,” said Doria, who says Lubbock is known for its generosity. "Those who have the experience here in Lubbock know that always, Lubbock comes up and helps the salvation army to help others.”
They are also looking for more volunteers to be bell ringers. "We need people who can smile and ring the bell and who can wish ‘Merry Christmas’ to people. Sometimes parents come with minors. That’s okay too. Complete families come, babies come. It’s a family-oriented activity.”
