Farmers and sellers are going to have plenty of pumpkins this year. Cooler less humid weather in the later part of the summer are the ideal growing conditions. Despite the drought conditions, irrigation has helped keep good conditions. One farmer even says pumpkins are better than in past years. The drier weather is actually good for carving. The more moisture a pumpkin absorbs, the easier it is to rot. This is an improvement since last year the pumpkin harvests in the northeast were spoiled in Hurricane Irene causing a shortage.
