Weather Helping Farmers During Harvest Season

Good weather has allowed combines to roll and more than three quarters of Illinois' corn crop has been harvested. This is well ahead of last year. Mostly dry days have helped speed up the harvest. Farmers in Peoria county are pleased with the result. Soil type is also a big factor in how well crops do. The rain shortage in the summer either effected the soil a lot of not much. Flat black soil did well, while rolling hills didn't do so well. Soybeans are able to take advantage of the cooler weather and rains from August and get 50 bushels an acre.
