Midwest Trying to Recover from Severe Flooding

Midwest Trying to Recover from Severe Flooding

Recent Rain Adding More Water to the Flooding

LAKE COUNTY, Ill. -- As the rain continues to fall early into Wednesday morning, flooded homes and businesses in Lake Countyare not getting enough of a reprieve in order to dry out their basements.
Last week's storms caused the Lake Forest schools and surrounding communities to delay opening due to many flooded roads. Gov. Pat Quinn has declared 44 counties in Illinois as state disaster areas. He has also extended the filing date for taxes in those areas where businesses and homes are still recovering from last week's flooding.
The Fox and Des Plaines Rivers have crested two feet above their respective flood stages. There is also still the possibility of snow and freezing rain in the area forecasts for Wednesday and Thursday nights; otherwise, a slow warming trend is expected over the next week.
