Severe weather leads to flooding, home evacuations
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Mother Nature brought severe weather to Tennessee residents on Saturday evening and into the early hours of Sunday.
Flash flooding and tornado warnings were issued throughout the night.
Emergency stations were implemented by the Red Cross for victims in heavy flooding areas such as Houston and Stewart Counties. Those shelters have since closed.
Rutherford County had heavy rainfall and a tornado warning issued early Sunday morning. The continuous rain prompted home evacuations due to flooding.
In north Nashville, residents said their homes flooded for the third time in four years.
At Buena Vista Pike near Whites Creek some saw up to two feet of water that flooded several homes.
Flood waters have receded in Nashville, but the water left behind debris on roadways.
Up to six inches of rain were reported in areas such as Houston and Stewart counties, while the Metro area received four to five inches of rain.
Creeks are also starting to recede in the Middle Tennessee area.
Several roadways were closed on Saturday due to high waters, some people had to be rescued from their cars.
According to Wilson County EMA director, John Jewell, there were no rescues, major issues or major flood related calls Saturday night.

Jewell said there was minor flooding on streams, however no areas were impassable.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department closed McGregor Park, Liberty Park,Trice Landing Park and Billy Dunlop Park due to the heavy rains Saturday night.
The parks will be temporarily closed as of Sunday. The Parks and Recreation Department will advise when the parks are ready to reopen.
There is no report of injuries at this time.
Motorists are reminded to use caution when driving, especially near high water areas.
Lingering showers are expected throughout Sunday.
