Severe weather alert extended, flash flooding possible

The Meteorological Service has extended the Severe Weather Alert until 5 o'clock Tuesday morning as a Trough over the central Caribbean, continues to influence weather conditions over Jamaica and its coastal waters.

Satellite imagery and radar reports indicate that moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms have been affecting southern and sections of some northern parishes, since this morning.

The Met Service these showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue tonight and into Tuesday.

Flash flooding, is therefore possible, over low-lying and flood-prone areas.

A decrease in the showers and thunderstorms is expected on Wednesday as the Trough moves toward the western Caribbean, and away from Jamaica.

Fishers and other marine interests are urged to exercise caution as strong winds are likely in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms, over the waters, particularly south and east of the island. Marcus Garvey Drive - Norman Grindley/Chief Photographer
