About 1,300 flights were canceled Monday between Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airpots; the flight tracking website FlightWare reported 1,700 were called off Sunday.The News-Gazette reports that around 60 people were relocated from their homes after a traffic accident led to a chemical spill during the day Sunday. The newspaper said the residents were allowed to return Sunday evening. As a result of the accident, involving a jack-knifed tanker truck, I-57 west of Champaign was closed in both directions and remained closed Sunday evening.
Two areas in Indiana had 19 inches from the storm. The snow made travel nearly impossible Sunday into Monday morning as Winter Storm Linus dumped as much as 14 inches of snow in parts of Iowa. The heaviest snow fell south of I-94 in Michigan between 1 and 11 p.m. Sunday, leaving more than 16 inches in Detroit -- the heaviest snowstorm on record for the Motor City since the early 1970s. Kalamazoo was the state's snow total winner, recording 20 inches. Schools closed Monday, marking the sixth time this school year the district had to shut down, exhausting its snow days, mlive.com reports. In Ohio, Toledo Mayor Michael Collins, 70, remained in critical condition Monday after suffering cardiac arrest while he was checking on snow conditions across the city the day before.
