Tropical Storm Jimena Weakening in the Central Pacific, Adding to Hawaii High Surf

  • Tropical Storm Jimena was about 650 miles east-northeast of Honolulu, Hawaii, as of Sunday morning.
  • Jimena will continue to weaken into the new week ahead as it tracks slowly northwestward, then bends westward.
  • A weakening Jimena should dissipate to a remnant low north of Hawaii.
  • Swells from Jimena will create dangerous, perhaps damaging surf along east-facing shores of Hawaii through the holiday. (NWS high surf alert)
  • Although a moist air mass is in place across the Hawaiian Islands from the remnants of Hurricane Ignacio, Jimena could bring more moisture to the state later this week. This would once again increase the threat of heavy rainfall.
  • At one point last Saturday evening (Aug. 29) into Sunday morning (Aug. 30), Jimena was one of three Category 4 equivalent hurricanes in the Pacific, joined by Kilo and Ignacio.http://www.weather.com/storms/hurricane/news/tropical-storm-hurricane-jimena-eastern-pacific
