Cold Air Helps Relieve Wild Fires

In the Flathead National Forest, spokesman Wade Muehlhof said a 2-acre fire along Wall Creek in the northern Bob Marshall Wilderness had two monitors dispatched to check its progress. It is not threatening any trails or structures, and will probably go unchallenged unless it makes some radical gains.
However, a wind blast riled up the Condon Mountain fire west of Condon, causing some active burning along Condon Creek. That fire is now about 1,952 acres. The midweek cold front is expected to rein that activity back down.
“But by the end of the week, it’s supposed to be back up to 80 and no precip,” Muehlhof said. “Everybody here is keeping their fingers crossed that nothing else happens. We know people will be out recreating. We just hope they’re making sure those campfires are dead out.”
