From now through the end of October, the autumn sky offers the right ingredients for some of the most dazzling Northern Lights. Because the summer light is receding and the winter chill has not yet arrived, this one of the prime times to head north for viewing.
According to space.com, auroras peak in twice a year -- around the autumnal equinox and vernal equinox -- when geomagnetic storms or disturbances in the Earth's magnetic field are the strongest.
